The Civil Supplies Police are taking steps to stop the smuggling of ration rice from Coimbatore to Kerala.
Sub-Inspector Thiagarajan, Ettu Kalimuthu and Kopu patrolled the Walayar area on the Coimbatore-Palakkad road on a tip-off received by Pollachi Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Inspector Gopinath.
Then they stopped a truck that came through. Asuraj, a driver from Kerala, who was driving the lorry, fled immediately.
When the lorry was subsequently checked, it contained 1.25 tones of ration rice in 28 sacks. Police later confiscated the ration rice and the lorry. A case has been registered against the fleeing driver Asuraj.
