102 new COVID-19 cases reported in Coimbatore district

A total of 102 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the Coimbatore district on Friday. The Health Department said that 1,208 persons were undergoing treatment and 124 persons recovered on Friday.

Two persons died in the district on Wednesday and Thursday, taking the official death toll to 2,425. Coimbatore district had a test positivity rate (TPR) of 1.2% on Thursday when it reported 107 cases of the disease.

TN’s daily case tally dropped to 973 cases on Tuesday compared to 990 on Monday. After 1,114 people were discharged, 11,147 were left on the active case list Coimbatore (114) and Chennai (109) remained the only districts with more than 100 cases each.

Health minister Ma Subramanian launched door-to-door vaccination from Chengalpet. A doctor and two nurses will visit more than 79,000 hamlet villages beside towns and city wards for vaccinations. These vehicles will travel every day of the week.

The state has also sought help from the education department to spread awareness among students about the need for adult vaccination and Covid protocols including masks and social distancing. The deadly disease is still alive. People are expected not to be lethargic in any way.
