10th edition of FERCICON held at PSGIMS&R

The tenth edition of FERCICON was organized at PSGIMS&R in association with Forum for Ethics Review Committees of India between Dec 7-9,2023. The theme of the conference is Strengthening Ethics Education to Empower Ethics Committees.  There were 2 preconference workshops On Educating ethics committees , sharing good practices and also an ICMR DHR outreach program by the ICMR Bioethics unit of India.  The conference deliberated on various ethical issues and how to empower the ethics committees and strengthen ethics education in India.

The conference was inaugurated on 8th December. Dr Sudha Ramalingam, Director Research, PSGIMS&R and Organizing chairperson welcomed the gathering. Dr Nandhini Kumar, president FERCI spoke about the conference and FERCI , Dr Jayasudha A Principal, PSG College of Nursing presided over the function and Dr R Karthikeyen Medical Superintendent, Clinical Services felicitated the gathering.  Dr K Bhuvaneswari proposed the vote of thanks.

The Dr Vasantha Muthuswamy memorial oration was given by Dr Vichai Chokekivat, Founding Chair FERCAP, Thailand and the plenary sessions were by Dr Juntra Karbwang,  President , SIDCER- FERCAP foundation, Dr Vinod Paul, Niti Ayog, Dr Francois Hirsh, INSERM, France. Challenges with Integrative medicine research, Ethics education in India, Recent technologies such as Controlled Human Experiment Studies, Artificial Intelligence, Microbiome studies etc. Eminent scientists such as  Dr Roli Mathur, Dr Sharmila Mande, Dr Vivek Rajan, Dr Mrunalini Kalikar, Dr Ganesh Dhakale, Dr Manish Barvaliya, Dr Manohar Gundeti, Dr Melvin George, Dr Balu PS, Dr Santanu Tripathi, Dr Bikash Medhi, Dr Anuradha Rose and Ms Vani Kesari.

The Dr Ramalingam Sankaran best paper award was also instituted and Dr Palvi Kudyar, Assistant Professor from Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai, India was the recipient of the same. She presented a paper titled “Evaluation of satisfaction and reasons for participation in a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinical trial: – a single centre study in Mumbai. Best poster awards were awarded to Ms Shabana R and  Ms Aala Ansari. A booklet on remembrance on Dr Vasantha Muthuswamy with the compilation of the condolence messages was released by ICMR Bioethics unit. Dr Roli Mathur, Head, ICMR-Bioethics unit released the booklet and it was received by Dr Nandhini Kumar, President, FERCI, Dr A Jayasudha, Principal, PSG College of Nursing, Dr Sudha Ramalingam, Director, Research and Innovation. More than 150 delegates attended the conference from across the country
