2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case: 38 sentenced to death
A special court on Friday awarded the death penalty to as many as 38 convicts, and sentenced 11 others to life imprisonment until death, in a case related to the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts in which 56 persons were killed and over 200 left injured.
The court had earlier acquitted 28 accused on February 8, when it delivered the verdict, nearly 14 years after the blasts in the city. On Friday, the special court judge A. R. Patel pronounced the quantum of sentence.
The prosecution sought capital punishment for all 49 convicts while defence lawyers urged the court to show leniency towards the convicts considering their social and economic background.
