Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) signed an MoU with the University of Udine, Italy and Tamil Nadu Banana Growers Federation (TNBGF) is going to implement Farm level Rope Conveyor and an International Standard Banana Pack-House project by name BANANA 4 GROWTH, first of its kind in India. The project with an estimated cost of 99 lakhs is funded by Port Authorities of Triests, Italy.
The Rope Conveyor is one of the safest mode of post harvest management of Banana bunches that is going to be tested and implemented in Cumbam valley of Theni Districts. The farm fresh banana fruits harvested under the projects are to be exported to Europian countries.
This unique project will not only reduce the post harvest losses in handling the bunches, but also paves way in improving the farm revenue and human drudgery.
An MoU was signed in this regard by TNAU Vice-Chancellor and TNBGF President Th. A.P. Karuppaiah and Th. A. Ajeethan, General Secretary of the Federation with the Port Authorities Triests, Italy. A proto type model will be made ready within six months and will be tested at the farm level for its efficient operation.
