The High Forest Estate Government Aided Primary School has been operating for many years in the area between the High Forest area and the Wagamalai Estate area near Valparai. The school building was located on the Elephant Pass and the school building and the nutrition center were repeatedly demolished by wild elephants.

Thus, the school administration has shifted the school from the High Forest Estate area to the Wagamalai Estate area for the safety of the students. This school building is being used only as a polling booth. In this situation, the municipal administration is carrying out the task of preparing the polling booths ahead of the municipal elections. Accordingly, the stench emanated from the building of the nutrition center which had been broken into and damaged by elephants in a useless condition when the municipal employees went to the polling booth maintenance work yesterday. Thus, when seen inside, a baby elephant lay dead with a skeleton.

The estate management and municipal employees informed the Manampalli Forest Department about this. Following this, Anaimalai Assistant Forest Ranger Selvam went to the spot and in the presence of Manampalli Forest Officer Manikandan, Forest Veterinary Officer Dr Sukumar conducted an autopsy on the body of the dead cub.

According to him, the dead man was an 8-year-old boy. The puppy was unable to get out again as the door was locked when he entered the school nutrition centre. The baby elephant has been dead for the past 3 months. An autopsy was performed and the boy’s body parts were cremated. said.
