Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Mongia (44) joined the BJP at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.
Mongia, who lives in Punjab, is said to be contesting the upcoming Punjab state assembly elections. Speaking during the event, Mongia said, “I want to join the Bharatiya Janata Party and serve the people of Punjab. Today, he said, there is no other party that works better than the BJP for the development of the country.
In Punjab, the BJP is all set to contest the assembly elections in Punjab in alliance with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and Sukdev Singh Dindsa’s SAD.
Former Congress MLA Fateh Bajwa, former MLA Akali Dal Gurtej Singh Gudiana, former MP Rajdev Singh Kalsa, retired ATC and Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyer Madhumeet also joined the BJP.
It has become easy for former cricketers to join political parties before elections. Before the 2019 Prime Ministerial election, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the BJP and contested the election. He defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s rival Adhishi by a margin of nearly five lakh votes.
