On 4th October, Mr.Pravin, a third year B.Tech student of Bannariamman Institute of Technology (BIT), Sathyamangalam was awarded the 3rd place in ‘ Dare to Dream 2.0’, an innovation competition conducted by DRDO ( Defence Research and Development Organisation). He received ₹3 lakhs from the Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh.The competition took place on the 5th death anniversary of Dr. Abdul Kalam.
Pravin made it to the final round from amongst 65,000 individual participants.
On analysing the numerous fireplace and plane accidents that claim over 284 lives every year, Pravin discovered that enhancing the fireplace retardants can cut back the severity of accidents. In place of the non eco-friendly petroleum based merchandise, he has used nanoparticles obtained from pure assets and integrated these flame retardant properties into his product.
His novel biocompatible and biodegradable product was also approved for proposal submission under Technology Development Funding (TDF) of upto Rs.10 crore.
Guided by R. Ravi Kumar, M. Kirupa Sankar and A. Vimalarasan, faculty -in charges of bioprocess and bioproducts special lab of BIT, Pravin’s life-saving product stands eligible for patent too.
