New Delhi has invited five Central Asian countries, namely Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as Republic Day guests. This is the first time that all Central Asian countries have attended as guests. Earlier, ASEAN countries were invited to Republic Day 2018.
It is noteworthy that New Delhi is an expression of its emphasis on Central Asia, and the two countries share cultural, civil, and historical ties. In 2015, Prime Minister Modi traveled to all Central Asian countries. This was India’s first visit after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of the five republics.
A meeting of Central Asian and Indian Foreign Ministers will be held in New Delhi on December 18-19. This is the third meeting between the Central Asian countries and the Indian Foreign Ministers. The first meeting took place in January 2019 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in which the then Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj represented India. Last year, due to the corona spread, the meeting took place via video.
