The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved bills related to major reforms in the country. The first major improvement is related to the age of marriage for women.
The second major decision regarding marriage has been taken during the tenure of Prime Minister Modi. Once passed in Parliament, it will become law applicable to all religions. Earlier, the Cabinet had taken a major decision to register marriages for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) within 30 days.
The number of married women in India between the ages of 18 and 21 is about 16 crore. Under the Child Marriage Prevention Act of 2006, anyone who marries a man or a woman under the minimum age is liable to two years imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees.
