The CII EDU TECH EXPO 2024, the first-ever education technology expo by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the 8th edition of its National Higher Education Summit were inaugurated in Coimbatore today at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex. The event, spanning November 15-16, saw an impressive start with Tamil Nadu’s Additional Chief Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. K. Gopal, delivering a keynote address and releasing a pivotal report on higher education prepared by CII and KPMG.

Highlighting the Tamil Nadu Government’s focus on research and innovation, K. Gopal termed the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Research Grant as a game-changer for faculty in state universities. “This initiative is aimed at enabling groundbreaking research to tackle major societal challenges,” he said. He also stressed the importance of integrating employability skills into higher education through an “outcome-focused teaching” approach. According to him, bridging the gap between academia and industry through internships and industry-relevant research is the key to producing future-ready professionals and driving economic growth.

S. Malarvizhi, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions, Coimbatore, graced the event as the Guest of Honor and received the first copy of the higher education report.

The event drew participation from prominent figures, including CII Southern Region Chairperson R. Nandini, Cognizant India Chairman Rajesh Nambiar, former CII Coimbatore Zone Chair Senthil Ganesh, and former CII Southern Region Chair Shankar Vanavarayar.

In her address, R. Nandini praised Coimbatore’s educational ecosystem for fostering local and national talent. “Coimbatore is a shining example of how a strong synergy between education and industry can fuel integrated growth,” she noted.

Rajesh Nambiar emphasized the need for collaboration between academia and industry to create a workforce that meets the demands of the modern economy. “Bridging this gap is essential for nurturing skilled professionals who can contribute to India’s economic aspirations,” he said.
