City Hosts Vishnupuram Award 2024, Writer Era. Murukan honored
Writer Era Murukan was awarded the `Vishnupuram Literary Award‘ for the year 2024 along with a prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a memento at a ceremony in Coimbatore .
The `Vishnupuram Literary Circle’, has been presenting the `Vishnupuram Literary Award’ since 2010.
It is noteworthy that the award has been presented to writers A.Madhavan, Poomani, Devadevan, Thelivathai Joseph, Gnanakoothan, Devathachan, Vannadasan, C. Muthuswamy, Raj Gauthaman, Abhi, Suresh Kumara Indrajith, Vikramadityan, Charu Nivedita, and Yuvan Chandrasekar.
The award ceremony for this year was held today at the Rajasthani Sangam Hall in R.S. Puram. The Vishnupuram Literary Award was presented to Era. Murukan, who is known as one of the pioneers of modern Tamil literature and has earned a special place in Tamil literature through the novel `ArasurVamsam’. He was presented with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a memento. A documentary film titled “A Garden of Shadows” was screened, and a book titled “Muppattaikannadiyinulagam” was released.
Kannada writer Vivek Shanbag participated as the special guest at the function. Writers Jeyamohan M.Gopalakrishnan and Ramya delivered felicitations.
The first day of the festival (Dec. 21) was marked by literary discussions and debates. The guests included, KeerananurJahirraja, Lavanya Sundararajan, Mayilan G Chinnappan, Tamizh Prabha, Thendral Sivakumar, Chitran, Vasagasaalai Karthikeyan, Kayal, and MandhiramuthyAzhagu.
On the first day of the event, two short plays, Vaal and Kazhumadan, were performed by the Meikkalam group. A book exhibition was also held in the festival hall.
The Vishnupuram Literary Awards ceremony, one of the first of its kind in the country, was held forbenefit of readers with a keen interest in literature. A large number of writers, poets and Tamil literature enthusiasts participated in this. The Vishnupuram Literary Circle members stated that the annual Vishnupuram Literary Award is a great opportunity to honor the contributions to modern Tamil literature.
