Closure of Bars near TASMAC!

Tamil Nadu Highcourt has ordered to shut the bars near TASMAC shops, pinpointing that the TASMAC corporation can sell liquor but shouldn’t allocate a place to consume it.

TASMAC started its operation in 2003 by acquiring the license of selling retail liquor—still, the consumption of liquor is prohibited in a public place. And the bars cannot be considered as private space. Also, there is no law to sell snacks or collect empty bottles by TASMAC corporation.

If it has to be regulated, an amendment should be passed in the TASMAC act 2003, unless TASMAC should not conduct a tender to allocate a license to the bars. HC has fixed a deadline of six months for the closure.
