Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that the Coimbatore Central Jail will be relocated to the suburbs and a Semmozhi Park will be set up at Gandhipuram.
Chief Minister MK Stalin arrived in Coimbatore this afternoon on a two-day visit to attend a ceremony to inaugurate new projects, completed works and welfare assistance. Arriving in Coimbatore by private plane from Chennai, he was greeted at the airport by ministers, District Collector and party executives.
He then went straight to VOC ground on Avinashi Road where the event was held. On his way by car from the airport to the VOC ground, he was greeted enthusiastically by a crowd of party cadres and the public.
Later, Chief Minister MK Stalin went to the ground and inaugurated 70 projects worth Rs 587.91 crore on behalf of various government departments for public use. He subsequently laid the foundation stone for 128 new projects worth Rs. 89.73 crore in the Coimbatore district on behalf of various departments.
He also provided various welfare schemes worth Rs 646.61 crore to 25,123 beneficiaries. He, therefore, inaugurated a total scheme worth Rs 1332.25 crore in the Coimbatore district alone. Speaking at the occasion, the CM greeted Minister Senthil Balaji and the government officials for grandly organising the event.
Stalin then said, “I came to this event in Coimbatore despite missing out on the success in the elections. As soon as I won the assembly election I bought my certificate and went to Kalaignar’s memorial.
I vouched to the press that I would serve all the people irrespective of whether they have voted or not and I assure that I would always stand by my words.”The CM said that he has accordingly appointed Minister Senthil Balaji to Coimbatore. “I have appointed ministers for all the districts where there is no ministerial representative. We are going to meet millions of people in Coimbatore and take action on their requests”.
He asserted that due action will be taken by the government. He briefed that the DMK government is very keen on their electoral promise of fulfilling the requests of the people filed through the petitions. Even if the multi-crore worth of projects is done, it is important that individual demands are met, Stalin added.
“I am proud to announce numerous projects for Coimbatore. The airport expansion, which has been pending for 10 years, will cost Rs. 1132 crore has been allocated. Work to acquire the land will begin soon. Steps will be taken to provide balanced drinking water in Coimbatore once in 2 days.
Project roads were laid in Coimbatore under the DMK regime. There was no work in the last regime. Accordingly, works worth Rs. 200 crores will be started to upgrade 5 project roads. The newly added Vellakinar, Saravanampatti and Cfortti underground sewerage projects in the Corporation for Rs. 309 crores are to be implemented.
The central prison in the heart of Coimbatore will be moved to the outskirts of the city. The Rs 200 crore Semmozhi Park will be set up in Gandhipuram with structures including a meeting hall. Additional works will be staForst of Rs 11 crore to improve solid waste management.
For Rs 16 crore, 63 welfare centres and 3 medical laboratories are to be constructed to provide medical facilities to the people. Where there are no street lights, lights will be installed for Rs 20 crore.The government has decided to give impetus to the development of Coimbatore like Chennai. We have already announced that the Coimbatore Urban Development Corporation will be formed.
We have appointed Minister Senthil Balaji to implement the projects. We will make Coimbatore a district with all the infrastructural facilities. Coimbatore, the exporting district of Tamil Nadu, lays the foundation for desired development and is home to millions of workers. I desire that business development like this should be for all districts.
Tamil Nadu should be the best state in India in terms of industry. Tamil Nadu should become the business hub of India. The entrepreneurship conference is scheduled to be held in Coimbatore tomorrow. Various contracts are to be signed with several crores. This will create jobs for the youth.” Thus he spoke.
The function was attended by ministers, MLAs, local body representatives, government officials, DMK members and the public. The ground had been facilitated with all the basic amenities including water and toilet facilities for the public.4,000 policemen were deployed on security duty in Coimbatore following the CM’s visit.
The entire VOC ground was brought under police control and security was beefed uairportshipuram bus stand, railway stations, shopping malls, and airports have been brought under police surveillance. After attending the programme in Coimbatore, Chief Minister MK Stalin attends a state function in Tirupur lays the foundation for new projects.
After this, he stays at the Government Guest House in Coimbatore. He will then take part in a ceremony to be held at the CODISSIA tomorrow at 11 am in which various MoUs will be signed. Chief Minister MK Stalin participated in the state function held in Coimbatore today.
