Coconut harvesting suffered due to the stagnant water in the groves

Pollachi, Negamam, Kinathukadavu, and surrounding areas are widely cultivated coconut in irrigated lands.

Some are cultivating intercrops in coconut groves. Due to continuous rains for the last 2 weeks, the flow of water in rivers and streams has increased. Thus, in some places, water is stagnant in the coconut groves.

There is an inability to drain this water. So farmers are suffering because the coconut trees are ready to be harvested but it has been pushed to the point where it cannot be harvested. Regarding this, the farmers said: –

Water has been stagnant in the coconut groves for the last 2 weeks. Due to continuous stagnant water in the roots of the coconut trees, root rot disease has affected the coconut trees. If this condition persists, the soreness in the coconut will decrease. So we are stunned not knowing what to do. Thus they said.
