As many as 216 new sub-stations announced by the CM will be set up soon, electricity minister V Senthil Balaji said here on Sunday. “Preliminary work is underway. To check voltage fluctuation, 8,905 new transformers were announced by the CM. Of them, more than 4,500 have been installed,” the minister said at a Makkal Sabai event.

The government would extend the duration of the three-phase power supply to farmers from the existing 16 hours a day if the required infrastructure is available.
However, the tools needed to implement the scheme were omitted. To make them, an estimated Rs 1,800 crore is required. According to Balaji, the number of hours will be extended wherever facilities are available.

There are 56,000 vacancies in the electricity department and the recruitment process will be initiated after getting approval from the chief minister, Balaji said. This will be great news for youngsters who need jobs. Let’s hope this opportunity will reduce unemployment in the state.
