As per recent reports about the new master plan for the expansion of Coimbatore International Airport, the airport will be upgraded to handle 7000 passengers per hour.
The 650+ acres of land acquired by the State Government is reportedly handed over to Airports Authority of India (AAI) reportedly under 2 conditions, and soon a tender will be floated to hire a builder to make the expansion works based on a master plan created by New Delhi-based architecture and design firm Gian P. Mathur & Associates Pvt. Ltd.
The master plan was made keeping in mind about the infrastructure requirements of the airport for the next 15 and 30 years. Based on this master plan, the airport will have 2 floors at 1.25 lakh sq.m area, 10 entrances and exits, upgraded technology and IT-related infrastructure, multi-level car parking, lifts and escalators, sewage treatment plant, improved illumination facilities, trade center and much more.
