Coimbatore, 16th May 2024: “Coimbatore is at the forefront when it comes to Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) practises. The role of EHS is continuously influenced by technological advancement, enforcement, and the setting of societal expectations. Industries need to involve a broader community to actively participate in local environmental initiatives, such as waste management, recycling, rainwater harvesting, and supporting health and safety awareness campaigns,” said Mr G Soundararajan, Vice Chairman, CRI Pumps at the conference on “Empower, Embrace, Evolve: Elevating EHS Excellence” organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry – Southern Region (CII-SR) today. The Compendium on EHS Practices was also released by the dignitaries on the dais. The Award Ceremony of the 16th Edition of the CII-SR EHS Excellence Award 2023 was also held.
“Coimbatore is not only known for its Textiles manufacturing but also for Engineering, Manufacturing and Education. As a major hub for the textile industry, Coimbatore has witnessed significant efforts towards improving Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) practices in textile mills and manufacturing units. These efforts include the implementation of pollution control measures-based water treatment systems, occupational health, and safety programs for their workers to ensure their well-being and minimize environmental impact,” said Dr R Nandini, Chairperson, CII Southern Region & Managing Director, Chandra Textiles Pvt Ltd during her special address.
“Coimbatore is also home to several educational institutions. These institutions play a crucial role in educating future professionals and promoting EHS awareness and best practices in the region,” she added.
Mr P Ravichandran, Chairman, CII-SR EHS Excellence Awards 2023 & President, Danfoss Industries in his welcome address said, “The multi-generational workforce is one of the biggest challenges and opportunities for companies and the leadership with EHS playing a critical role for employees to get embedded in the culture of the organization”.
“EHS is now a very important element of business. Organizations should consider the invisible KPIs of the EHS as these KPIs define the very culture of the organization,” said Mr Sudeep Dalvi, Co-Chairman, CII-SR EHS Excellence Awards 2023 & Senior Vice President & Director – Technical & Purchase, Chief Communication Officer, Toyota Kirloskar Motor while setting the context for the conference.
The Conference had sessions on Panel Discussion on Empower EHS Excellence, Embrace EHS Excellence, Elevate EHS Excellence, and EHS Excellence Award Distribution.
The Award categories were on Environment Restoration, Energy / Carbon Footprint, Water Management, Health at Workplace, Road Safety, EHS Innovation, EHS Employee Engagement in Workplace, Other Best Practices, Women in EHS, EHS Leadership with over 208 awards being announced.
