Coimbatore Corporation has set a target of collecting Rs 373 crore in taxes in the current financial year. There are more than 5 lakh taxpayers under the control of the Corporation administration in Coimbatore.
There are more than 5 lakh taxpayers under the control of the Corporation administration in the Coimbatore Corporation areas. They are taxpayers in taxing aspects of the corporation including drinking water tax, property tax, garbage tax and so on.
The corporation has set a target of collecting a total of Rs 373 crore in taxes, both outstanding and current, for the current financial year 2021-22. Speaking on this, a corporation official said, The impact of the corona epidemic in the last fiscal year resulted in the collection of just 93 per cent of the total taxes due to reasons including a curfew.
About Rs 121 crore has been collected in the last eight months of the current financial year. Due to the continuous activities of the corporations, 33 per cent tax has been levied on the current account so far in the current financial year.
The remaining Rs 252 crore in tax collection will be collected within this financial year. Also, notices have already been issued to companies with tax arrears of over Rs 1 crore. They will be prosecuted, the official said.
