Coimbatore: Diwali brings new life to movie theatres

After a seven-month lag, cinema halls in the city are seeing 100% occupancy, as moviegoers flock to see Diwali films. Though the state government allowed full seat occupancy from November 1, the cinemas struggled to attract people due to the absence of new releases. With the premieres of Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe and Arya and Vishal starrer Enemy, the halls are packed once again, much to the delight of theatre owners who state that the public is aware of the security procedures in cinemas. Up to Sunday, there is a good demand. After a long time, we can offer 100 per cent seating, according to the director of a famous theatre.

Tickets for movies such as ‘Annaatthe’ and ‘Enemy’ are sold like hotcakes. There is brisk booking for up to Sunday. With the festival holiday ending on Sunday, there will be less crowd from Monday. We are happy to run the show with 100 % seating after a long time,” the manager of a prominent theatre sailed.

Movie buffs were overjoyed to experience the packed houses. “Watching thalaivar’s movie along with other fans in a packed hall was an unforgettable experience. We were elated. More than watching the movie, I enjoyed the celebratory mood,” said V Selvaraj, a Rajinikanth fan.

People are enjoying to celebrate Diwali in a community rather than in-home. Most people have coronavirus-specific antibodies, However, it is also important to wear masks.
