The Coimbatore junction has received the ‘platinum’ rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) as reported by THE HINDU. First of its kind in the Southern zone and Sixth place in India.
Coimbatore Junction Record
Green Railway Station Rating system was implemented by IGBC(Integrated Green Building council) along with the Environment Directorate of Southern Railways. The Railway stations in the zone will be rated according to their environmental impacts.
The evaluation has six environmental categories. They are Sustainable station facility, Health, Hygiene and sanitation, energy and water efficiency, Smart Green initiatives, Innovation, and development.
Coimbatore station has got 83 points out of 100 and added to the Platinum Rating list. The station got wastewater recycling, miyawaki plantations, and 370 installed solar panels. Which saves 30-70% of water, 20 -30% power consumption.
