At checkpoints located in the vicinity of Coimbatore, the Municipal Commissioner of Police conducted direct investigations into motorists involved in the offense.
Pradeep Kumar took over as Coimbatore Municipal Police Commissioner last week. On the day of his inauguration, he said that Coimbatore should be made an accident-free city and those crimes against women and children should be prevented.
In this context, he conducted a surprise inspection at the Saravanampatti check post on Shakthi Road and the Chinniyambalayam check post on Avinashi Road. He then ordered that sophisticated surveillance cameras be fitted at the checkpoints and that sandbags be properly maintained for security.
Meanwhile, police stopped two-wheelers wearing helmets and cars without seat belts in the area. The Commissioner of Police, who conducted a direct inquiry into them, advised them on the importance of wearing a helmet and seatbelt.
He also directed the officers on duty at the check post to not only impose fines on motorists involved in the offense but also to make them aware of road safety.
