Seminar on Preparing Women Students for 21st Century Higher Education

The seminar on “Preparing Women for the 21st Century High Education” organized by Avinashilingam  Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women (Deemed to be University) seeks to emphasize the importance of gender parity in in higher education as well as to enlighten the skill sets required by women graduates to become useful citizens in the future.

 

Higher education in the 21st century is not only aimed at providing domain knowledge but also to equip women with the employable skill sets. Further, Education for women also aims to instill the entrepreneurial spirit and the young woman so that they become job providers rather than job seekers. The various programs offered by different departments spread across 8 schools at AVINUTY not only provides a livelihood but also life enhancing skills and ethics through valuer added courses.

The Honourable Governor of Telegana and Honorable Lt. Gov of  the Puducherry Dr. Tamilisai Sounderajan in her chief guest address emphasized the need for preparing women students for the 21st century higher education as well as to analyze the skill sets required by women graduates to become useful citizens in the future,

The Honourable Governor further said the education system around the world has transitioned to meet with ever changing global standards. The whole purpose of education has undergone a major transition considering objectives of preparing global citizens of the 21st century. However education now seems to be merely achieving proficiency in any branch of knowledge, but not to be trained to become a productive citizen of the country, to enhance national values and enhance the economy  of the nation to evolve as a ‘developed nation’. Our country India Our country India is currently positioned in economy as 5th among the developed countries through the proactive policies and the programs of Govt for India.

It is under these circumstances the Government of India has formulated National Education Policy 2020 after careful analysis of global needs of the 21st century students. It is planned and being executed to bring about a paradigm shift in the outcome of our education in our country that is why it is called “Outcome Based Education” in a multi-disciplinary approach. The integrated approach that is planned in NEP 2020 is to inculcate the students with knowledge skills and attitude through innovative curricular reforms by providing skill based vocational education, internship in industries and allied institutions besides encouraging the entrepreneurship and the startup culture.

The Managing Trustee Dr TSK Meenakshi Sundaram delivered the Presidential address, Chancellor Professor S P Thyagarajan, delivered the special address, Vice chancellor Dr. V Bharathy Harishankar welcomed the gathering, Registrar Dr. Kowsalya rendered the formal vote of thanks. Introduction of the chief guest was done by Dr. P Chitramani, Dean, School of Commerce and Management.
