CCMC takes several actions to transform Coimbatore city better place to reside. As per the sources, 300 to 400 tonnes of garbage were collected from the 100 wards of the corporation daily and dumped in the 650-acre Vellalore dump yard over the past ten years.
Coimbatore corporation, along with Communitree, a Chennai-based Environmental NGO, will plant around 15,000 trees and saplings on two-acre of land at the Vellalore dump yard and turn it into a bio-diversity park. The project will cost around Rs. 60.11 crores. The initiative will take place on World Environment Day (June 5). The theme is “only one earth”.
