G.Vijaya has been appointed as the principal district judge (PDJ) of Coimbatore. She is the first woman to be posted as the PDJ in the district. She was previously serving as the PDJ in Ramanathapuram district. She had earlier served as a judge at the IVth additional district judge court (ADJ) in Coimbatore district.
The post for a judge at the Coimbatore district principal and sessions judge court has been vacant for more than six months. TNPID court judge Senthil Kumar was holding additional charge in the meantime. Official sources said around 80 PDJs have served in Coimbatore since 1880 and all of them were men.
