Gurukulakalvi at Isha Center is the Violation of children’s rights?
The Chennai High Court has refused to quash a summons issued by the Tamil Nadu Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child against the Isha Foundation. The High Court has also directed the commission to send a new summons and conduct an inquiry and take a decision on it within eight weeks
In 2016, the Tamil Nadu Child Rights Protection Commission voluntarily took up a case against the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore. The administrator of Isha Yoga Center had filed a case in 2016 seeking cancellation of the summons sent in the case.
The case came up for hearing before Judge SM Subramaniam earlier. At that time, the Commission summoned the Isha Yoga Center to appear before it on a complaint against our center, stating that “the school teaches English, mathematics and basic scriptures necessary for the lifestyle of the children through gurukula education and also teaches dedication and virtue.”
The judge ordered the commission to send the summons back within four weeks, setting a new date and time, and directed the Isha Foundation to explain within two weeks with the relevant evidence.
After receiving the explanations, Isha gave the appropriate opportunities to the Foundation and ordered the Child Welfare Commission to issue an appropriate order within eight weeks of the investigation and close the case.
