Several parts of Chennai reported waterlogging on Sunday morning after the city recorded heavy overnight rains. Heavy rain lashed Chennai and its suburbs on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rains in the coming days.
Many areas in Chennai including Koratur, Perambur, Porur, Poonamalle, Kodambakkam, Anna Salai, T Nagar, Guindy, Adyar, Perungudi, OMR reported waterlogging. Residents took to social media to post videos and photos of the flooding in nearby areas.
Tamil Nadu Weatherman Pradeep John said that the city recorded its heaviest rainfall today since December 2015.Tiruvallur collector said 3,000 cusecs of water would be released from Poondi reservoir starting at 9am. People residing in low-lying areas on the banks of the river Kosasthalaiyar were advised to be on alert.
Flood alert has been issued in Chennai as water level went up in Chembarambakkam Lake. 500 cusecs of water is set to be released at 1:30pm on Sunday, November 7. Authorities have been told to alert residents in Kundrathur, Thirumudivakkam, and Thiruneermalai.
