The corporation is committed to provide all facilities to the schools, Prathap said. “Funds for infrastructure requirements are being allocated. Additional classrooms have been provided wherever necessary. Almost all the schools have students in full strength. In some schools, the demand was so overwhelming that headmasters could not accommodate any more students. Classrooms are being constructed to increase the intake in such schools.”
This year, the strength in primary level alone has increased by 1,500-odd students, while admission is still going on, the commissioner added.
As many as 164 government high and higher secondary schools in the Coimbatore district will be getting English language labs soon and this has been initiated by the school education department. Within this month, the department will be providing the equipment pieces to the schools.
Sanitary pad incinerators have been installed in 42 high and higher secondary schools managed by the city corporation, commissioner M Prathap said. “The schools already have sanitary pad vending machines. Students have been taught how to use the incinerators” he said.
