Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has commented on KL Rahul’s captaincy in the Johannesburg Test against South Africa. India lost by 7 wickets in the 2nd Test in Cape Town as South Africa drew the series 1-1. Captain Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the 2nd Test due to back pain on the day of the match.
Rahul, who was the vice-captain, took charge as the captain of the match. Since 2014, India have never lost a Test match without Kohli in the XI. India have won four of the six Tests in which Kohli has been injured or at rest.
Commenting on India’s defeat, Gavaskar said, “Rahul should have kept the fielding in such a way as to take the wicket of the South African captain. This is the first time India have lost a Test without Virat Kohli. India have won or drawn most of the matches that Kohli has not played. But the Indian team led by KL Rahul has failed. Gavaskar said.
