INS Agrani, Coimbatore celebrated Navy Day on December 4 by the nationwide observation of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo – Pak operations.
Navy Day is marked annually on 4 December to recognise the achievements and role of our naval forces. The day is observed on the anniversary of Operation Trident, which took place during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The day also pays tribute to all Navy personnel who sacrificed their lives in service of the nation.
Cmde Ashok Rai, VSM, the Commanding Officer laid the wreath at the war memorial of INS Agrani and paid homage to the martyrs of the nation. The function was attended by veterans, NCC Cadets, students of the Navy Children School (Coimbatore) apart from the families of the defence and the defence- civilian personnel posted to the naval units at Coimbatore.
Additionally, as part of Navy week Celebrations, in collaboration with AROGYA, NWWA (Coimbatore), under the aegis of MI ROOM INS Agrani, a Medical Camp for the inmates of Assisi Snehalaya Children’s Home, Rottigoundanur was organized on 02 Dec 21. A Blood donation camp was also organised on December 3.
Other outreach programmes conducted as part of the Navy Week celebrations included facilitation of ‘Veer Naaris’ (War Widows), tree plantation/ afforestation drive, visit to select Orphanages / Old Age Homes in and around Coimbatore city, etc. It is noteworthy that all activities were conducted as per the COVID-19 protocols.
