Retaining players before the mega auction is a daunting task for Indian Premier League (IPL) owners. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team decided to retain Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj ahead of the IPL 2022 bid and dropped key players like Herschelle Patel, Devdat Padikkal and Yusvendra Sahal.
While there is no denying that the team management had to make some tough decisions, it was Herschelle Patel who revealed why Asif was released by the team. Herschel, who recently made his international debut by mixing in the IPL, said the decision was made to go to auction and load my value.
“When I was not retained on the team, Mike Hesson (director of RCB) called me and told me not to be discouraged that this would boost your bid value. No one from the other team has approached me yet.
I want to continue playing for RCB. RCB would love to add me back to the team and I would love to go back and play for the team because the RCB team changed my whole life. Sharing the RCB dressing room with the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers helped me a lot. The experience of players like this is very useful to me, “said Patel.
