Protests in Kazakhstan have escalated into violence as the government sharply increased LPG prices. This price hike has claimed many lives. Troops from Russia have also rushed to quell the protests.
Riots are in full swing in the city of Almaty. There, it is feared that several protesters were killed when security forces took action after protesters tried to bring police stations under their control.
The price of liquefied petroleum gas has doubled, causing unrest in Kazakhstan. Twelve members of the security forces were killed and 353 were injured in what became known as the Protest Turns Violence.
In this situation, Russia is sending its troops at the request of the President of Kazakhstan. Russia is reportedly sending troops to restore peace in the country, which is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
