KCLAS host intercollegiate competition focusing on Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Digital Era

Over 300 students from across 18 colleges in Coimbatore and neighbouring districts displayed their performing skills in an Intercollegiate competition organized by Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore (CVC) a Voluntary Consumer Organization at Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS).

While the competitions were held on 19-20 August 2023 on the campus, the results were declared, and prizes were distributed in an event organized on 24 August 2023.

Zoho Corporation, the multinational technology company and popular Coimbatore cricket team LYCA Kovai Kings supported the competition organized by CVC jointly with Citizen’s consumer & Civic Action Group, Chennai (CAG).

‘Green Tech Fusion’ being the theme of the competition, students were asked to perform street play or skit or mime on one of the 3 topics, Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Digital Era. Students explained futuristic models / ideas on the chosen topic, highlighting the latest revelations in the subject.

Mr. G. Chandeesh – Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore North, was the chief guest at the Prize Distribution. He emphasized the need for youth to keep innovating and look at new possibilities to improve their careers.

Principal Dr. Vijila Edwin Kennedy of Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts & Science (KCLAS) presided over the function and appreciated the organizers for the efforts taken and choosing topics that were relevant to current trends.

The Guest of Honor Dr. V. Gopinath – Scientist F of Bureau of Indian Standards, released a handbook – Compendium of Consumer Court Judgements.  The book consists of the most relevant and recent judgements from the Consumer Courts, which will provide clear insights into the legal precedents and protect consumers’ rights effectively.

The First Prize, with a cash award of Rs. 10,000 went to Nehru College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore. The Second Prize, with a cash award of Rs. 5000 went to AVP College of Arts & Science, Tiruppur and the Third place with a cash award of Rs. 3,000. went to Jansons Institute of Technology.  A special prize under each category was awarded to Govt. Law College, Coimbatore, Sri Sarada Niketan College, Karur and K. S. Rangasamy College of Technology, Tiruchengode.

Earlier in the day, Mr. C M Jayaraman, President, Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and highlighted some of the major milestones achieved by the organization during 2022 – 2023. Mr. Subramanian. P, Coordinator, Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore proposed a Vote of thanks.
