KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, has been teaching one of the Tamil traditional martial arts Silambam to International students. The artists appreciate that this effort to properly train the young community, especially international students will lead to the preservation of the tradition.
More than two hundred international students from Zimbabwe, Nepal, Bangladesh and Middle-east countries are studying Bachelor of Engineering in KPRIET. Over 30 of them are practising Silambam with great interest from 6 AM to 8 AM from a special trainer for Silambam.
The coach says that playing the Silambam will teach students to treat success and failure equally, they can increase self-confidence, resilience and memory.
“We have appointed a special trainer so that the students can learn Silambam without difficulty. Though it is a martial art, it is deeply embedded in culture, tradition and morals” said Dr Saravanan, Principal, KPRIET.
