The Chennai High Court has given an action verdict in the Living Together case. The judge clarified that couples living together without getting married have no legal right to sue in the Family Welfare Courts. Court orders action in case of an unmarried woman living with Joseph Baby.
The artiste had filed a lawsuit seeking to have herself with her partner, Joseph Baby. The Chennai High Court, which heard the case, has ruled that Living Together has no legal right to sue in the Family Welfare Courts.
Only those who are legally married and living can access family courts to obtain legal rights. The court has questioned how a couple can be sued on the basis of cohabitation only if it is their privacy to live together without being legally married. The government has set an age limit for marriage to prevent child marriages. The age of marriage for young people is 21 and for women, it is 18.
Earlier, the apex court ruled in a landmark case that a man and a woman have the right to live together without being married for a few years. It is noteworthy that the verdict was a landmark judgment regarding the Living Together relationship.
