India now has immense opportunities in the field of semiconductors as well, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses to the World Economic Forum’s Davos Agenda through video-conferencing said, this is the best time to invest in India, given India’s adaptability to new tech.

The PM said in 2014, there were just a few hundred registered startups and that today the number has crossed 60,000, several of them unicorns. India currently houses the third-highest unicorns globally, he said, adding that the country, which was once known for license raj, is nowadays encouraging ease of doing business and reducing govt involvement in businesses.

Earlier in the day, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for greater world cooperation against COVID-19 and said China would send an additional 1 billion doses of vaccine to other countries while urging other powers to discard a “Cold-War mentality” at a time of rising geopolitical tensions _ a veiled swipe at the United States
