Omicron; First death toll in Britain – Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces
A new variant of the coronavirus called ‘Omicron’, found in South Africa, is spreading rapidly around the world. To date, Omicron has been confirmed in more than 60 countries, including the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, and India.
Omicron Emergency has been declared in the UK due to the rapidly spreading Omicron virus. On Sunday alone, more than 1,200 new cases of the Omicron virus were reported. So far, the number of people infected with the Omicron virus in the country has crossed 3,000.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the first person infected with the Omicron virus had died. He said nothing could be said at the moment about the damage caused by the Omicron virus compared to the delta variant, adding that the speed of transmission from one person to another was threefold.
