Residents of Amsa Nagar near Periyanaickenpalayam staged a road blockade in front of the District Collector’s Office on Monday.

More than 200 families have been living in the Amsa Nagar area next to Periyanaickenpalayam for ten years now. The people of the area have staged a road blockade in front of the Coimbatore District Collector’s Office, claiming that the authorities are now threatening to evacuate them.

They alleged that there is no appropriate action taken despite repeated petitions. Despite the supply of drinking water to our area, no electricity or necessities have been provided so far and no free housing lease has been issued so far.

Government officials say they will give them another place. But we cannot relocate there as it is located in a forest area, the people demanded. The public involvement in the road blockade said that the administration should make arrangements to issue a patta to the existing place.

The strike was called off after officials promised to take action. The government should work for the wellness of the people and immediate action should be done after their petition is received.
