PSG CAS recognises its distinguished alumni during the Foundation Day celebrations

PSG College of Arts & Science, a renowned educational institution established in the year 1947 by the PSG Sons & Charities, celebrated its Foundation Day on 10th of August 2024 to recognize and commemorate the visionary founders who paved the path forward for us.  On this occasion, the college with pride acknowledged six of its alumni who have proved their caliber in various fields with Distinguished Alumni award.  The awardees are:

1. Dr.Gowrisankar Rajam , Principal Scientist, Pennsylvania, USA,

2.Dr.Venkatraman Sriram, Founder, Managing Member& Chief Scientific Officer, San Francisco,

3. Mr.A. Myilvaganan Superintend of Police (Vigilance & Anti-Corruption) Chennai,

4. Ms.D. Alarmelmangai IAS. Secretary and Labour Commissioner, Govt. of Chhattisgarh,

5. Mr.Adam Antony Sinclair. Olympian, Indian Field Hockey player,

6. Mr.S.Ramkumar IAS, Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Meghalaya.

The program commenced with the Principal of the institution Dr.D.Brindha, welcoming the gathering and highlighting the achievements of the College  over the years.  The principal also paid tribute to the founders and recalled the remarkable contributions made by the institution in the scenario of higher education.

Shri L.Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee, PSG Sons & Charities delivered the presidential address congratulating the awardees.  He mentioned the significance of the Foundation Day celebrated in PSG Institutions every year to honour more number of alumni who excell in various fields.

The Chief guest Mr.M.Mohan, Distinguished Scientist&Director (Projects), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala thanked the management for inviting him as the Chief guest for the day  and congratulated the vision of the college which is marching towards the milestone year of 100 alongside the country’s 100thyear of Independence. In his speech, he announced that 23rd August 2024 would be celebrated as National Space Day to commemorate the soft landing of Chandrayan II.

Also he cited the key role played by the ISRO in the fields of navigation, meteorology and communication. Mr.Mohan also spoke about opportunities provided at ISRO for the innovative and inquisitive young people by offering short term internships and courses. He concluded the speech by conveying the message that education and culture should impart courage and wisdom to overcome the hurdles posed in the society.

Dr .Gowrisankar Rajam, in his acceptance speech recalled some nostalgic moments on PSG campus and thanked the opportunity given by the institution by offering the Post-Graduation course to him that took him to greater heights. He conveyed the message that one should not hesitate to pause and acknowledge the help rendered and reciprocate that to the society.

Dr.Venkatraman Sriram started his speech by recalling the humble background from which he hailed and thanked all his family members who believed in charity just like the PSG family. He reminisced the values that he carries with him which were taught by his family and the college.

Mr.A. Myilvaganan expressed his gratitude to PSG which had brought all the change in him to excel in his career. Accepting the award, he dedicated it to all his classmates and friends.  Also, he advised the students to stay focussed and committed to their purpose of life, and never to lose their individuality and character. Overwhelmingly he stated, that of all the other awards he had received, he values the Distinguished Alumni award as his greatest award.

Ms.D. Alarmelmangai IAS shared her experience as a student and also a professor at PSG CAS.  She expressed her gratitude to the former principals and professors who encouraged her in her Civil Services journey. By quoting profusely from Tamil poets like Bharathiar, she recalled her experience in supporting the abused girl children which gave her contentment in service. She also entreated and encouraged the students to be of service to humanity which is the essence of living life meaningfully.

Mr.Adam Antony Sinclair proudly recollected how he was handpicked by  his mentor Dr.Navneethan, Physical Director, PSG CAS who instilled the ‘Do or Die spirit’  in him that took him to the position of  an Olympian.  He highlighted the way sportsmen are benefitted and honoured in PSG  CAS and cherished the way the institution  acknowledged him when he won laurels.  Addressing the students he stated that there are so many unsung heroes behind a successful sportsmen and insisted that  hard work and sportsmanship are integral part of discipline. Also, he requested the management to continue the support to all the aspiring sportsmen.

Mr.Mr.S.Ramkumar, IAS proudly recalled the omnipresence of PSG CAS alumni in various prestigious positions.  He expressed his happiness in sharing the dais with the other distinguished dignitaries. Further, he recalled the way he approached some critical situations rationally during his college days that he took forward in his profession too.He concluded his speech by advising the students to handle success and failure carefully.

The event concluded with vote of thanks by Dr.T.Kannaian, Secretary, PSG College of Arts& Science. The Secretary thanked all the member and awardees on the occasion of the Foundation Day. He highlighted that all the alumni are the ambassadors of the institution and also wished that the students should take up the great work and keep proving to be nobler citizens.
