Queen of Asia: 300 kg sapphire found in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has released information on the world’s largest sapphire, the Queen of Asia, weighing more than 300 kg. This rare gemstone was discovered three months ago in a mine in the town of Ratnapura, 85 km from the capital Colombo.

The world’s largest natural corundum blue sapphire weighs about 310 kg. The gemstone has been named the “Queen of Asia”. The National Gem and Jewelry Authority of Sri Lanka has certified this blue sapphire as the most valuable gemstone. This precious gemstone is sold in the international market. International gemstone companies have not yet certified this precious gemstone.

Therefore, the Chairman of the National Gem and Jewelry Authority, Thilak Weerasinghe has stated that further investigations are to be carried out into this gem.
