Urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu will be held on the 19th. The announcement was made by the Election Commission yesterday evening. Following that, the Code of Conduct for Elections came into force.
Meanwhile, political parties removed billboards from political parties in the Pollachi municipal area. Billboards placed on Gandhi statue, Palakkad Road, Mahalingapuram arch, Palladam Road and other important parts of the city were removed.
In addition, billboards belonging to commercial and private companies were removed. They also painted and destroyed wall advertisements written by political parties at barricades in the middle of Coimbatore Road, Newschem Road and Palakkad Road.
Similarly, the rules of conduct came into force in the municipal areas including Suleswaranpatti, Zameen Uthukkuli, Samathur, Kottur, Anaimalai, Odayakulam, Vettaikaranputhur.
Political party flagpoles were not removed and statues of leaders were not covered in municipal areas. Social activists have therefore urged the full implementation of the rules of electoral conduct.
