The ground-breaking ceremony for the beautification of the road connecting Tidel Park and Avinashi Road was held on Friday in the presence of city mayor Kalpana Anandakumar.
The road, covering a distance of 783.6metres, would get modern amenities befitting an IT park. The civic body is developing the road at a cost of 1.5 crore under the ‘Namakku Naame Thittam’ scheme with the help of corporate social responsibility funds.
An official with the engineering wing of the city corporation said the road would become more pedestrian friendly with a provision for pavements on both sides. “Beautiful plants and trees will be planted and maintained properly to make the stretch greener.
Existing street lights will be replaced with the ones with aesthetic appeal. There will be garden-like structures and seating in-between, where people can hangout.”
He said a drainage facility would also be provided to prevent the road from getting flooded during heavy rain.
“A corporation official said the work will be completed in the next six months. The stretch will be distinct from other roads,” he said.
Coimbatore district monitoring officer Jayashree Muralidharan, meanwhile, inspected the place and took stock of the amenities proposed for the stretch in the presence of city corporation commissioner M Prathap and district collector Kranti Kumar Pati.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by east zone chairperson Ilakkumi Izhamselvi Karthik, east zone assistant commissioner Senthil Kumaran and ward councillor Boopathi.
