“Run for Native Tribes” turned out to be a huge success with the participation of over 600 people in the 5 KM run organized in the early hours near Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore on Sunday. The event was organized in association with Yi Coimbatore Rural Initiatives.
The run was aimed at raising funds for the social immersion project of KCT Business School Coimbatore being executed at Kallar Pudur village near Mettupalayam. The funds collected will be utilized for various initiatives planned for the social and economic upliftment of the tribal settlement in the village.
In the foothills of Nilgiris, where the misty hills cradle the Kallar Pudur tribal village, a transformative initiative has been quietly championing change since 2021 – the Social Immersion Project (SIP) of the KCT Business School (KCTBS), part of Kumaraguru Institutions.
The SIP aims to bring significant social, economic, and behavioral changes to the tribal community of Kallar Pudur, while sensitizing management students to ground-level realities and instilling social responsibility.
Fast forward to 2024, the SIP has not only touched 1000+ lives for three years but is now taking a giant leap with the #RunforOurNativeTribes Marathon. As the sun rises on March 3, 2024, the day will witness the fervor of runners coming together for a cause beyond the finish line – the SIP Marathon 2024 in Kovilpalayam. This marathon creates awareness about the challenges faced by the tribal community and raises funds for 13 developmental projects of KCT.BS students, aligned with the UN SDGs 2030.
This race is not just for a run but for a chance to contribute to positive societal change. The marathon offers e-certificates for all participants and medals for the first forty finishers.
P Jebakumar secured the first position in the run whereas S M Aditya and P Marimuthu secured second and third position respectively in the men’s category. D Maheswari secured first place in the women’s category. P Poongudi and S Carshini secured second and third place respectively.
There were participants from the Kallar Pudur village in the run where Manivel Raj bagged 11th position and Navya secured 4th position.
