“Samathuva Pongal” celebrations at KPR Institutions

KPR Institutions celebrated “Samathuva Pongal” on 13th January 2023 in Kalaiarangam to display religious amity, to highlight the importance of oneness and to conglomerate the diverse faith. KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology and KPR College of Arts and Science joined hands together for the celebration. The institution wore a festive look as all the people in the management, members of faculty, 100 international students from various countries, non-teaching and supporting staff were turned in traditional outfits. The religious differences were dropped in the celebration and the members of the institution enthusiastically celebrated the festival of harvest “Thai Pongal.”

Traditional way of celebration was given importance in the celebration where the place was decorated with colourful kolams feasting the eyes. The mud pot which is used for making pongal was decorated with colours and the turmeric plant tied on the neck of the pot personified itself as the necklace to the pot. Pongal prepared by the members in the firewood was then sacrificed to the Sun God, the god for Pongal and was worshiped to get prosperity. The members of the institutions enjoyed having the sumptuous feast of pongal after the prayer. The international students had a great exposure and experience towards the culture of Tamil Nadu in this celebration as they were also included in the preparation.

A debate was organised in Raagam Hall on the title” To guide the well-being of today’s students…” for the members after the celebration. Dr. M. Akila, Principal, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology presided the debate. Dr. P. Thangaraj, Director, CFRD – KPRIET; Dr. R. Devipriya, Head, Department of CSBS – KPRIET; Dr. P Anuradha, Assistant Professor of Tamil – KPRCAS were in one team supporting the idea of teachers going in the direction of students and embrace them. Dr. J Indra, Head, Department of ECE – KPRIET; Dr. S. Karthikeyan, Head, Department of AI&ML – KPRIET; Dr. P. Gokulnath, Assistant Professor of Tamil – KPRCAS were in one team supporting the idea that it is the teachers’ duty to plan and direct them properly. Altogether the Pongal Celebration was not only the feast to the stomach but to the eyes, ears and the brain.
