Sri Ramakrishna Hospital celebrates “International Premature Babies Day”
Sri Ramakrishna Hospital celebrated “International Premature Babies Day”, a special event at the premises of the hospital. This was organised for all premature babies born in this hospital and their parents with the children took part in the event. There were patients from Madurai, Trichy and Erode districts & many others places who have had premature babies. Dean of hospital Dr. P Sukumaran presided over the gathering.
NICU was launched 25 years ago and today this department can handle up to 40 children at a time. Equipped with high-pressure artificial respiratory equipment, cpap, transport incubator, 2 specialized doctors and dedicated nurses man the department round the clock.
Dr. Siddhartha Butthavarappu, Head of Infant NICU said, “By development of medical science now it is possible to save 24 – 25 weeks babies”. He also added “The right method of artificial respiration, feeding, disease control and brain development study, controlling brain inflammation can save these children.”
Many people shared their experiences with the audience that included a 1000 gm born baby girl who has completed her MBBS degree and another twins who were born here and are healthy.
