Start-up Mania 5.0 – Business Plan Competition & Erode Entrepreneurship Conference
CII – Yi (Confederation of Indian Industries – Young Indians), Nativelead Foundation, Erode and TBI@KEC (Technology Business Incubator Centre of Kongu Engineering College) are jointly organizing the 5th edition of a business plan competition “Startup-Mania 5.0” for students, graduate innovators and startups across TamilNadu with Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), Govt. of TamilNadu as sponsors for the awards.
This year, apart from the general category an additional category called “Accessibility” has been included. Innovators, startups and students across India with ideas, technology and products which will assist and make easier the lives of the physically or mentally challenged can be registered.
The objective of the competition is to develop entrepreneurial culture and competence among students, graduates and others in the region. The Competition will include Idea Pitching, Boot camp, Mentoring, Funding Opportunities from Angel networks and an Entrepreneurship conference. It gives the participants, an opportunity to validate their idea and gain the required knowledge and insight so that they can start their entrepreneurial journey with confidence. The participants who are selected from the prelims will be eligible to participate in a Boot camp which is a 2 day intensive training programme. The winners of this competition will be awarded cash prizes worth Rs.1.30 Lakh. The competition concludes with an Entrepreneurship Conference and Award Ceremony. The conference includes panel discussions and professional discourses on Entrepreneurship by eminent personalities which would benefit the aspiring entrepreneurial community at large.
Startup Mania 5.0 poster was launched on August 7th 2020, 11.30 AM at the virtual meet of Startup TamilNadu 2020, organized by Nativelead Foundation, which had around 800 attendees. Subsequently on August 14th, 2020, the website of the event to register their ideas was launched virtually, in the presence of Mr. Suresh Sambandam, CEO, Kiss flow, Chennai. Around 475 students attended the launch in which Mr. Suresh Sambandam delivered a power talk on “Entrepreneurship for Dream TamilNadu.”
In the last four editions of Startup Mania, totally 2000+ ideas have been received and on an average 65 colleges participated in the competition from across 16 districts in TamilNadu. In the other innovators and startup’s category around 50 ideas were received on an average every year. Importantly, the programme was supported and sponsored by Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute (EDII), Govt. of TamilNadu and SIDBI (Small Industries Development bank of India). Under the Nidhi Prayas grant scheme, 6 innovators who participated in various Startup Mania editions have got Rs.42.63 lakhs as grant in total. They have started their own company and filed patent for their ideas.
With increasing unemployment and lack in placements, this competition opens the door for person with innovative idea to come forward and start their entrepreneurial journey forward by making use of our mentoring and financial assistance.
