Swiggy to offer paid time-off during periods to women delivery partners

Online food delivery outlet Swiggy has initiated a monthly period time-off policy for its female delivery partners.

They can opt for two days of paid time – off every month. Those who opt will acquire a minimum income guarantee. 24% of the women delivery partners at swiggy are earning revenue for the first moment in their lives.

“Distress from being out and about on the road while menstruating is perhaps one of the most under reported explanations why many women don’t consider delivery to be a viable gig” Mihir Shah, Vice President of operations at swiggy said in a blog post on Thursday.

“To assist them, we have introduced no-questions-asked, two days paid monthly period time-off policy for all our female delivery backers, he disclosed.

Besides their period time-off policy, Swiggy is also working with electric mobility partners to promote EV cycles and bikes on rent to help women who don’t have access to carriers.

They are also enforcing safety measures for female delivery partners. They will have an SOS service accessible on the Delivery Partner App that will connect them to the Swiggy helpline or the local police, or ambulance service in case of a medical crisis.

Swiggy has also partnered with Shell to furnish women delivery partners access to restrooms across all their petrol stations in the country.

Swiggy has nearly 1000 female delivery partners as of now, in about 5 years.

A big round of cheering to Swiggy for this extraordinary initiative which enables more women to come forward in onboarding as a delivery agent.
