Tahsildar was arrested in Coimbatore for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000

Tahsildar, Anti-corruption police

Chinnaraj (age 61) is the Deputy Chairman of Nayakanpalayam Panchayat near Periyanayakanpalayam in Coimbatore District. He lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Anti-Corruption Police. It says: –

Authorities decided to auction off shops at the Indira Gandhi Mall in Periyanayakanpalayam. I decided to participate in this auction. Following this, I applied to the Revenue Department for a property value certificate of Rs. 5 lakhs.

The village administration officer and the revenue inspector who reviewed my application calculated the value of my property and indicated that they could issue me a property value certificate of up to Rs. 15 lakhs.

Subsequently, I approached the Coimbatore North Tahsildar office and asked the staff to issue me a property value certificate. Then they approached Tashildar Kokilamani and asked him to get the certificate.

Following this, I met Tashildar Kokilamani and asked him to issue a certificate. He then told me that he would give the certificate only if he gave me Rs. 25,000. Therefore, appropriate action should be taken in this regard. Thus it was said.

After receiving the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Police handed over Rs 25,000 worth of chemically smeared rupee notes to Chinnaraj. Receiving this, he came to the office of the North Dashildar in Coimbatore.
