Tesla, an American electric car maker, has asked the federal government to reduce import duties before entering India. The Chief Executive Officer of the Finance Commission has issued a major statement in this regard.
Amitabh Kant, CEO of the Finance Commission, said that a decision on Tesla’s plan would be taken soon, adding that some things needed to be clarified in this regard.
Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI AYOG, said that the US automaker Tesla had proposed to the Government of India to reduce the import duty (Import Duty) but the government was evaluating it and a decision would be taken soon. He said the government was reviewing the project.
The final decision in this matter will be taken by the Revenue Department of the Ministry of Finance. According to Tesla, currently, their cars cannot be assembled with the kit. It says no decision has been made yet.
Therefore, informed sources say that the government is considering temporarily reducing the import tax for about 3 years.
