A mammoth 18,500+ runners participated across three categories in the Walkaroo Coimbatore Marathon 2023 held today. The city’s premier event had garnered the participation of people from all walks of life and this Sunday morning was nothing short of a festival. A buzz of excitement was in the air as an army of runners lined up at the start line to support the cause of the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, while being primed to accomplish their personal goals and live some beautiful moments on the streets of Coimbatore. Hundreds of supporters turned up along the course in the morning to cheer the runners.
To huge cheers, the Walkaroo Coimbatore Marathon 2023 was flagged off early today morning. The 21.1 km half marathon, which had 2,300 runners was flagged off by Sylendra Babu, IPS, V. Balakrishnan – Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, Kranthi Kumar Pati I.A.S,. District Collector, Coimbatore.
The 10 km run, which had 5,700 runners, was flagged off by Saravana Sundar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore, Rajarajan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Coimbatore City Police, G Chandeesh, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), V.Noushad, Managing Director, Walkaroo Group.
The 5 km run, which had more than 10,100 runners, was flagged off by – Dr. T Balaji, Managing Trustee, Coimbatore Cancer Foundation, Abdul Rasheed Veluthedath Director, Walkaroo International Private Limited.
The race started on Park Gate Road and the prize distribution ceremony was held at Stanes School Ground. The marathon route was fully supported by hydration points, medical facilities, ambulance services, route markers, and course marshals thus ensuring a hassle-free experience for the runners. Timing chips were used to keep track of the participants and provide official and personal times.

Thanks to the assistance from the Collector, Police Commissioner, Corp Commissioner and all Governmental agencies we could conduct a world class Marathon. A Big Thanks to our Event Partners and volunteers who make this event what it is, besides the great enthusiastic participation of community of Kovai. Till the next marathon.”
Mr. Ramesh Ponnuswami, Race Director said, “The eleventh edition of the marathon has been a big success, a testament to the growing community of recreational long-distance runners, their passion and dedication to the sport. Every successful event delivered is a very gratifying experience for my team, which has works for months to put this event together. With constantly look for opportunities to improve and elevate the experience of our participants, making them want to come back every year, improve their performance, relish the experience, and spread the word around to help us grow the numbers. We appreciate and thank the runners and express our gratitude towards the people of Coimbatore, the Police department, the Coimbatore Collectorate, the Coimbatore Corporation, and several organizations and volunteers for their continued support and patronage. Looking forward to seeing everyone again at the next edition in December 2024, which promises to be bigger and better.”

The Walkaroo Coimbatore Marathon was brought to the city by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation in association with Coimbatore Runners & Show Space Events. Prior to the start of the race all participants received a T Shirt and the finishers a medal. The Prize Money amounting to over Rs. 4.25 Lakhs was presented to the winners. The prize money for the open category for men & women for 21.1 km run was Rs. 50,000, 30,000 & 20,000 respectively for the first, second and third place holders, while for the top three places in the 10 km category the prize money was Rs. 30,000, Rs.20,000 & Rs. 10,000 respectively. The prize money for the veteran category for men & women for 21.1 km run was Rs. 10,000, 7,500 & 5,000 respectively for the first, second and third place holders, while for the top three places in the 10 km category the prize money was Rs. 10,000, Rs.7,500 & Rs.5,000 respectively.
The Marathon will be held as an annual event during third Sunday of December every year.
